Jedes Jahr das gleiche Spiel, jedes Jahr der gleiche Ärger: Pünktlich zum Ferienbeginn, wenn die Deutschen mit dem Auto in den Sommerurlaub reisen, steigen die Benzinpreise. Für die ZDFzoom"-Ausgabe "Die Sprit-Abzocke – Wie Mineralölkonzerne Kasse machen" am Mittwoch, 20. Juli 2011, 22.45 Uhr, hat sich Autor Alexander Czogalla auf Spurensuche gemacht, um zum ersten Mal das Geflecht der Benzinpreistreiber zu entwirren.

 

Mitunter ziehen die Kraftstoffpreise in der Ferienzeit sogar mehrfach am Tag an. Verbände wie der ADAC und der Auto Club Europa (ACE) vermuten seit langem, dass die Mineralölkonzerne untereinander Preisabsprachen treffen, um beim Geschäft an der Tanksäule kräftig mitzuverdienen.

 

Das Bundeskartellamt hat jetzt den Abschlussbericht einer über dreijährigen Studie veröffentlicht: "Es gibt ein Preissetzungsmuster, was in unseren Augen ganz typisch dafür ist, dass Sie es mit einem Oligopol zu tun haben und die Unternehmen es gewohnt sind, in einer ganz bestimmten Art und Weise auf die Preise des jeweils anderen zu reagieren. Das finden Sie nie in Märkten, wo Wettbewerb ist", so der Präsident des Bundeskartellamtes. Sprich: Einige wenige diktieren den Preis, und dem Autofahrer bleibt nichts anderes übrig, als diesen zu schlucken. Die Ölbranche weist den Vorwurf zurück – mit den bekannten Argumenten: Es herrsche ein intensiver Wettbewerb und der Markt sei äußerst transparent.

 

Wie kommt der Benzinpreis denn nun zustande, und wer verdient alles am Milliardengeschäft? Das Ergebnis wochenlanger Recherchen des Autors ist ernüchternd und bestätigt alle Vorurteile: Einen echten Wettbewerb gibt es kaum noch, weil sich die "Big Five" der Branche Lager, Raffinerien und Transportwege teilen und so den Vertrieb beherrschen. Außerdem halten sie die vielen Mittelständler und freien Tankstellen am Gängelband, denn die Kleinen müssen das Benzin von den Großen kaufen.
